What look? Hostas in part sun fade, other broadleafs lose their vibrant coloring (reds and greens), and by mid season many will show a little crispiness around the edges.   This garden is not irrigated. Yes, I can stretch a hose out to reach about half, but I don't. Many plants have never been watered (except naturally), so despite what sometimes seems a careless approach to siting plants, most are placed where they can thrive from the start. I think that summer irrigation makes only a small difference, though unquestionably new plantings are kept alive. The garden changes in summer, mostly for the worse, but far from horrible. Please refer to the table below to see which day your local Meadows Farms is closed in the morning so you can plan your shopping day accordingly.  See inventory schedule June Gardening Tasks Talking Gardening with Doug Before we get into June I want to do a little re-capping of the weather we had in May.  Most importantly, our rainfall was a little above average.  I find rainfall totals to be one of the more important factors for gardening.  Now that we are entering the hotter summer months it is good to know that our plants do not have to stress over the lack of water.  And, we do not have to worry about any water restrictions – at least not now.  But, as we do enter the summer months, let’s all be water-wise and not be irresponsible citizens and be wasteful of this precious and needed resource.  Here are a few June tasks Squash & Zucchini Zucchini, crookneck, and straightneck summer squashes are best when harvested at a small size, about 6 inches long.
