Tips for a Weed Free Garden
Bonnie's Garden
One of the most important things we can do as a gardener is to keep weeds out of our vegetable and flower beds. Too many weeds can crowd plant roots and force them to compete for water and nutrients. When a plant is “fighting”, they have less energy to grow or bloom. Weeds can also provide hiding places for insects and cut down on air circulation, which is essential to minimize the risk of fungal diseases. See tips for a weed free garden

Daylilies
Daylilies are one of the most versatile perennials for the landscape. They are very drought tolerant once established and can handle the scorching full sun in the summer and survive our cold winters as well. By removing the dead flowers and cutting back the scapes on your daylilies you will promote new growth and new blooms throughout the season. We have many colors to choose from in large 4-quart pots.
Here is a sampling of our Daylily varieties and colors

Bringing Butterflies to the Backyard
Starting a butterfly garden can be simple and rewarding if you follow these pointers. The most important thing you can do as a gardener is to plant both nectar and host plants in your garden. Providing host plants for caterpillars to feed on will allow you to watch the metamorphosis from caterpillar to chrysalis to butterfly. So, do not discourage caterpillars.  Read more and see our list of Plants that Attract Butterflies

Dealing with Powdery Mildew
One of the most common and easy to recognize plant diseases, powdery mildew, is caused by fungus spores that overwinter in garden debris and are spread by the wind the following season. In late spring and early summer, the warmer days and high humidity provide perfect conditions for spore germination. The disease spreads over the surface of leaves of plants like Bee Balm, Lilac, Rose, and Phlox. While the plant may look extremely unattractive, its overall health is not affected. Although we can’t change the conditions that favor powdery mildew, we can stop or slow its spread to keep your plants looking their best.  See Tips to Control Powdery Mildew

We keep your yard looking great.
Mosquito Shield keeps you out in it longer with less bites.

Mosquito Shield of Dulles applies mosquito spray that kills and repels mosquitoes and ticks. We treat your common use areas such as pools, decks, patios, and swing sets, paying special attention to where mosquitoes and ticks breed and congregate.  Our three-pronged approach kills mosquitoes, masks your CO2 (which attracts mosquitoes), and repels them away from your property.  The spray adheres to foliage, wood, stone/brick, and other organic materials. This creates a vertical barrier that strengthens with each visit.  Backed by our Unconditional Guarantee!
