Temperatures this Friday and Saturday night are going to be in the mid to low 30’s depending on your area.  Please protect your plants that are tender to these nighttime low temperatures.  This includes any annuals, perennials with new tender growth, warm season vegetables, herbs and tropicals including houseplants that you may have outside.

First, check your plants for moisture because a hydrated plant is less likely to suffer cold damage. Water is an insulator, so give a generous root watering at the base/drip line of each individual plant. Use a bucket or a sheet to keep the frost from touching any newly planted bedding plants (annuals) or newly planted perennials with tender young foliage. New plants in above-ground containers can just be pulled into your garage or house for the night and go back outside tomorrow once the danger of frost is over.  If covering with plastic, be sure the plastic is not touching the plant and secured in such a way to not blow off the plants.
