Simple Secrets for Growing Citrus Bonnie's Garden Citrus trees are fun and easy to grow—if you give them what they need. Correct light is important. | Is It Spring? The Weather Sure Makes It Seem So Garden Time with Doug Wow, my last writing for February. March will be here next week. The spring season is officially here in 24 days. But, as I drive around the area I am seeing plants in bloom that shouldn’t be this time of year. Yesterday, I saw both the Star Magnolia and a Saucer Magnolia in bloom. I was reminiscing about the old Maymont Flower and Garden Show that would have been this past week if it still existed and seeing the Bradford Pear trees in bloom along 6th street. So, we have dealt with our plants blooming early in the past. But, it is what it is this year. Read more | |

What Is Corn Gluten Organic Weed Preventer? Don’t worry, it’s not the food ingredient everyone’s trying to avoid! In this case, “Gluten Free” is NOT the goal! Corn Gluten is an all-natural by-product of the production of corn starch. It prevents the establishment of weeds and supplies a source of organic nitrogen. Nitrogen promotes green growth in lawns and the nitrogen in corn gluten is slow released and long-lasting. Corn gluten prevents the roots of seedling weeds from developing. Without root formation, the weed dies from a lack of water since roots deliver water to the rest of the weed. Meadows Farms recommends Espoma Organic Weed Preventer plus Lawn Food.
