In dry conditions we recommend watering every other day with a soaker hose that will permit slow absorption to the roots.
- If the common mophead hydrangea needs to be pruned, this should be done immediately after flowering. Flowers buds develop soon after flowers fade in color, so if pruning is done too late the next cycle of flowers is lost. Endless Summer and many newer introductions flower again, usually in late summer after spring flowering, so pruning might delay the second cycle.
- Limelight, Little Lime and other summer blooming hydrangeas should be pruned in late fall, or in early spring.
- Grass seed should be planted in early spring, or beginning in late August or September with cooler temperatures and more regular rainfall for best results. Sod can be installed at any time, but in the summer months it requires substantially more watering.
- While March through May, and September and October are the ideal months for planting, most plants can be installed in the less than prime periods with more attention to watering. We recommend slow watering 2-3 times each week, preferably with a soaker hose so that water soaks in rather than running off. Trees can be efficiently watered with GatorBags or TreeDiapers that release moisture slowly.

A wide spreading serviceberry (Amelanchier) overhangs the small pond and much of the length of the stream, dropping leaves during various dry spells until autumn. References warn against placing water features is such a position, but the steep banked, fern lined creek was the inspiration, and handfuls of leaves are easily scooped where they accumulate in the rock lined stream. Maintaining this water feature is no more or less bother than the garden's four other ponds in more open settings, but this has become the garden's favored view. | | _____________________________________________________________________ | | | A few of the fine brands featured by Meadows Farms | | | |
