Poinsettia Care
Poinsettias are the number one potted plant sold in the U. S.  This is amazing given the fact that they are mainly sold during the Christmas holiday season.  For the holidays, place the poinsettia in bright indirect light and allow the soil to dry moderately between thorough waterings. Learn more
We are surrounded by beautiful poinsettias right now so here are some interesting tidbits about them.

Amaryllis
There are few things lovelier than Amaryllis in full bloom. Here’s what to do to make sure yours knocks your socks off. Buy the largest size bulb for the variety. Larger bulbs mean bigger — and more — flowers. Keep in mind that miniature and double-flowered varieties usually have smaller sized bulbs. Make sure your Amaryllis bulb has the same firmness and feel of a good onion.  Learn more about Amaryllis planting tips and out of season care

November Gardening Tips
Garden Time with Doug
Here we are in November and having great weather for Fall planting projects.  The Holiday season is just around the corner but it is still fall and FALL IS FOR PLANTING – better and stronger than ever. We have had some good rainfall this past couple of weeks. Our soil temperature is still warm – 59 degrees according to my soil thermometer.  Bottom line is to keep planting because roots continue to grow and develop this time of year and plants planted now will have nearly 7 months of development before the stress of possible heat and dryness next summer.  See November tips

Buying a Christmas Tree To Plant
A living Christmas tree not only provides holiday cheer but can provide a valued landscape plant with proper care.  Using a living tree is a “growing” – pardon the pun – trend amongst homeowners these past few years.  I realize the idea of using a living tree for Christmas is not for everyone but this idea has some financial merit.  But, to be successful with using a living tree for the holidays requires some forethought and a game plan.  Read more

Your Houseplants Are In For Winter.  Now What?
Bonnie's Garden
To repot or not repot?  Unless you broke the pot bringing your plant in, don’t repot right now.  Even indoor plants are responding to the less intense light levels and shorter days this time of year.  While they aren’t dormant, they are not growing very fast.  Save repotting for late winter/early spring (February/March).  Remember, when you do repot, don’t go up more than an inch or so in size.  For information on light, watering, feeding,  pruning, and insect issues, keep reading.
