Gardening Tips for November
Talking Gardening with Doug
FALL IS FOR PLANTING so don’t let our calendar dictate your gardening activities.  With all this rain and with our soil temperature staying warm this combination creates a good planting time.  Roots continue to grow and develop this time of year and plants planted now will have nearly 7 months of development before the possible stress of heat and dryness next summer.  Here are some important November gardening tips

Christmas Is Coming!
Christmas is right around the corner and Meadows Farms will have all your Christmas needs such as Christmas trees, poinsettias, wreaths, roping, and more to make your home look, smell, and feel like Christmas.  See our Christmas at Meadows Farms resource page.

Poinsettia Care
Poinsettias are the number one potted plant sold in the U. S.  This is amazing given the fact that they are mainly sold during the Christmas holiday season.  For the holidays, place the poinsettia in bright indirect light and allow the soil to dry moderately between thorough waterings. Amaryllis
Bonnie's Garden
Amaryllis just showed up a couple of weeks ago and I’m already getting a lot of questions on how to grow these beautiful giants.  The good news is they’re a whole lot easier than you might think.  There are just a few things to keep in mind. In every grocery store these days, you can find amaryllis in boxes—a red, a white, a pink, and a red-and-white stripe.  If you need a grab-and-go quick gift, they’re great.  But if you are growing something for yourself or family or friends, look for just the bulb and plant it yourself. With amaryllis, the bigger the bulb for the variety, the more flowers you get—hands down.   Read more

Holiday Cactus
Bonnie's Garden
One of the plants you’ll see almost everywhere this time of year is Christmas/Thanksgiving/ Holiday cactus. So here are some interesting facts about these beautiful seasonal bloomers.  When they bloom in their native habitat in Brazil, they are beautiful spring bloomers that the locals call “Flor de Maia” or May Flower! See more interesting facts and learn how to grow and bloom your Holiday Cactus, here.
